Do not immediately assume that the carrier acted unlawfully.
First, review the Bill of Lading and applicable carriage terms.
The carrier may have contractual rights to transship cargo, change vessels, or use an intermediate port.
But if the change results in delay, additional costs, or cargo damage, the carrier’s conduct should be carefully examined.
The important questions are not only where the container went, but why, when, and for how long.
