Can a Vessel Arrest Be Avoided in Egypt?

Vessel arrest is one of the most significant judicial measures affecting shipowners and operators, as it may result in the detention of the vessel and significant legal and commercial consequences.
Although an arrest may be legally available and properly grounded, avoiding the arrest may be possible in certain circumstances where the underlying claim is addressed at an early stage.
Based on our experience in vessel arrest and release proceedings in Egypt, we assist clients in assessing potential risks at an early stage and in considering appropriate measures that may help avoid an arrest where possible.
Such measures may include engaging and negotiating with the claimant, seeking an early settlement, or arranging appropriate security, depending on the nature of the claim and the circumstances of each case.
This does not mean that an arrest can always be prevented. Rather, early legal intervention may help reduce the risk of arrest and avoid the arrest where legally and practically possible, while protecting the interests of the shipowner or operator.
